What Is A Spiritual Man Redeemed By Grace?

The Daily (NASB) Reading: Psalm 51

Since this is a Psalm of David after the loss of his child with Bathsheba as a prophetic judgment on his sin against the house of God (his own house) from Nathan, what theology is being established here by the Holy Spirit that serves as an example for us who are found under the same condition as David?

1 Corinthians 6:14–20 (NKJV)

14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh." 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Once David was awakened to the sin by Nathan's rebuke, what does David appeal to that he already knows about God? (v.1)

(ḥesed). n. masc. steadfast love, kindness, faithfulness, loyalty. The core idea of this term relates to loyalty within a relationship. In relation to the concept of love, it denotes God's faithfulness to his people.

The OT frequently uses the term ḥesed to denote an aspect of God's character as it relates to his covenant with his people. Perhaps the most well-known use of ḥesed is found in Psalm 136, where the term is used 26 times as part of the refrain, "for his loyal love (ḥesed) endures forever." In this passage the psalmist applies the term ḥesed to God's work in creation (Psa 136:4–9), his reign in heaven (Psa 136:26), and his military victories (Psa 136:17–22). Elsewhere in the OT, God's ḥesed is manifested by his acts of redemption (e.g., Exod 15:13), his mercy and forgiveness (e.g., Num 14:19), and his faithfulness to the covenant with this people (e.g., Deut 7:9). In addition to the OT'S emphasis on God's ḥesed, people can also display ḥesed, both to another person and to God. God expected Israel to show to him ḥesed, but the people often failed because of their iniquities (see Jer 2:2).

Since David is appealing to the (hesed) love of God, what manner of grace is he boldly expecting to receive since he has already entered into this covenant love of God since God is not like a man who loves according to the nature of his own pride? (v.1)

What does David understand about the purpose of Israel that it should be a priority that the walls be built and that the charity of the holy assembly (church) be free and protected to do her business? (v.5-6, 18-19)

Since Israel is chosen out from among the cursed nations for salvation and for the ministry of reconciliation, why must (truth) be the greatest priority in David's heart of responsibility to exercise his office with good judgment and integrity? (v.6-7)

And therefore, why must he be humble about his own sin to fulfill the covenant of God's love for Israel through a royal priesthood as kings and prophets reign together as hosts of the blessed sacrifice? (v.7-8)

Therefore why does David need a "secret place" more than he needs to be transparent to demonstrate humility in the sight of the nation? (v.8-9)

Why does God grant the gift of faith and repentance? (v.15)

Consider that it was the business of giving daughters as wives and/or concubines to secure a share in the trust of protecting borders and securing treaties.

Why then do you despise us—were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?" These were born to David in Hebron.

Therefore isn't it the multiplying of the wives in the leadership of the nobles that prevents God from accepting "the young bulls" on the altar? (v.19)

Deuteronomy 17:14–20 (NKJV)

Therefore certainly, the walls were the greatest priority because the greatest threat was the nations that God commanded Israel to drive out, but their sanctification was in danger too because of the customs of the nobles that were made to serve and secure peace.

Therefore the walls and the sanctification of the secret place were for the progressive sanctification of the nation. (v.18)

He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord—how he may please the Lord. 33 But he who is married cares about the things of the world—how he may please his wife. 34 There is a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world—how she may please her husband. 35 And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.
