Her own *laziness is the *cause of *her slumber; a *throat of *deceit will *starve. (MAST)

*[laziness] literally, the feminine noun which is subservient to the Hifil stem (causative) of the verb, to bring to ruin or collapse down. This contentious woman is the cause of her own starvation (1Cor.11:10-16). It’s her own fault that she doesn’t prosper (in the holy land) (Rom.12:1-5;2Pet.1:5-11). Her throat lays open and bares to the public in Solomon’s court about the sins of her house; she requests to bear no personal shame or guilt for her sin (Zeph.3:5,11;Jer.6:15;8:12). She points the finger to the man who brought her in, but it was she who opened the path of her soul to him. She laid her soul bare before him (Heb.4:12-13), but now to accuse him, she lays the very same path open to the public court (Gen.3:6-13). She is the cause of her own slumbering. She has been asleep at the wheel her whole life and is driving toward Hell with fury (Gen.3:2-3; Rom.13:11; 1Cor.15:34; Eph.5:14). Her inferiority, the very effect of her laziness, is because she is asleep to the truth (1Cor.11:3); but if she remains subservient to follow the command of God, she indeed leads the man with the grace and with the power of the tongue of life rather than an open throat of the vomit his living Hell (Prov.26:11; 1Pet.3:7; 2Pet.2:22; Tit.3:7; Eph.3:6). She is to swallow this pride of life (1Jn.2:16; Gen.3:16) that says she is to rule the man with a graceless (1Cor.14:35), lifeless tongue (1Tim.3:8;James 1:26;3:5-6;1Pet.3:10;Rev.16:10).

*[her slumber] literally, apathy to work and diligence. Theologically this is apathy to build up the life of the soul on the holiness of God. It is a purposeful intent to avoid the necessary work to cover the shame of her house (Isa.30:15;32:17-18;33:20;Lam.3:26;Zeph.3:17;1Thess.4:11;2Thess.3:12;1Tim.2:2,15;1Pet.3:4).

*[a throat] literally, a loose throat. But the root is the belly of her soul (Rom.3:13; Ps.5:9). This is the seat of her appetite, the heart of her desire. Again, this is to be taken in the context of the quarrelsome woman. Solomon is pointing directly at the female who was loose with her throat, begging at the throne of his court, suing for damages that were a result of her own sinful choices. This throat is the pathway to her soul, but Solomon is addressing the fact that she stretched out (loosened) the purpose of her soul in idle, empty deceit (Matt.12:36). Her words, her testimony against this foolish son were a lazy stretching out of the truth. Solomon doesn’t hesitate to call the accused a foolish son, but neither will he permit her witness of him to be stretched beyond the facts (Ex.20:16). Solomon renders this judgment upon her soul. She is a loose throat that labors in the art of deceit. And Solomon declares from the throne of his court that she will choke on her hunger, for she desires nothing but the ruin of man, and not just any man, the destruction of the son of God’s choosing. She is determined to ruin the elect of God (Mk.13:22). Because of this, she is sentenced to gag on the desires of her soul. Because she was not willing to swallow her pride, the larger her ego becomes, the more she will choke on the smoke, the very breath of Hell and Abaddon (Rev.9:11;14:11). Her throat, her path leads to the destruction of the very soul (Isa.5:14;14:15;57:9; Prov.1:12).

*[deceit] literally, laxness. It is a carefree attitude about others for the love of self. It is a treacherous ethic, to appear that they have your best interest in their fellowship with you, but at heart are preparing to throw you under the bus to serve their self-interest. It is an idleness not to look out for best interest of others, but a quick dash of hot pursuit to gratify your self-interest (Phil.2:1-11).

*[starve] literally, to suffer hunger. All her begging at this throne is in vain while she still quarrels with this attitude (Rom.9:17-24). She is sentenced to continue to suffer hunger until she puts off her idleness and closes her throat to the desires of her self-interest. She will literally starve herself of the breath of true life, until she removes the deceitful accusations of her own fraud that is lodged in her throat and pour out the overflow of the confession (Phil.2:10); until she takes a breath of true air from the mercies of God, the lies that are jammed in her throat will restrict her breath to the dust (Amos 2:7;Mic.7:17;Isa.47:1;65:25;Ps.104:29;119:25;Job 17:16;Deut.32:24;Gen.3:14). It is because she doesn’t swallow the sharp and piercing words of Truth that the ‘seat of her affections’ is restricting her breath from the life of very life. Once her selfish affections are separated from the will of the Holy Spirit the path of her soul will be like a cannon that blasts off a new confession at the enemies of the soul (2Chr.17:6; Ps.1:2;37:4;112:1; Isa.58:14; Jer.6:10;9:24; Heb.4:12-13;Acts 13:10;Matt.13:25,39;1Pet.5:8).

The Glory of Christ
The Glory of Christ in His Person

Let your thoughts of Christ be many, increasing more and more each day. He is never far from us as Paul tells us (Rom.10:6-8). The things Christ did were done many years ago and they are long since past. 'But,' says Paul, 'the word of the gospel where these things are revealed, and by which they are brought home to our souls, is near us, even in our hearts,' that is, in those who are sent and are its preachers. So, to show how near He is to us, we are told that 'He stands at the door and knocks,' ready to enter our local fellowship and to have gracious communion with us (Rev.3:20). Christ is near believers and ready to receive them. Faith continually seeks Him and thinks of Him, for in this way Christ lives in us (Gal.2:20). Two people are sometimes said that one lives in the other, but this is impossible except their hearts be so knit together that the thoughts of one live in the other. So it ought to be between Christ and believers. Therefore, if we would behold the glory of Christ, we must be filled with thoughts of Him on all occasions and at all times. And to be transformed into His image, we must make every effort to let that glory so fill our hearts with love, admiration, adoration, and praise to Him.
